Anthony Salandy, 1969-2005

March 24, 2005

It is with great sadness that I must inform everyone of the passing of Anthony Salandy. Early this morning, Anthony passed away at home with his wife, mother and father by his side.

We are all aware that Anthony had been battling cancer since last September. As you would expect from Anthony, it was a courageous fight. We can't help but feel a sense of frustration and anger mixed with our sorrow because it seems so unfair that such a young and vital person is taken from his family and friends.

Our hallways will not be the same without his jovial laugh and gleaming smile. During Anthony's 15 years at EMI you could often find him lending a helping hand, whether it be a computer problem, camera question or just good old football stats.

One of Anthony's passions was his love of photography. He was a gifted and talented photographer and will always be remembered by his EMI family for this gift. In the years to come, many of us will share the beautiful photos he took for us and, in particular, the memories of the children's Christmas parties.

Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Sharon along with his entire family. It goes without saying that Anthony will be forever in our thoughts here at EMI Music Canada. His robust personality, positive attitude and many talents added a great deal to enrich our lives.

He will be missed.

Anthony spent his last years working for me as a programmer in the New Media department and was responsible for many front and back-end advancements -- "Eurekas" that focused our energies on building the right tools and the right services... improvements that increased the company's productivity and, we believe, allowed us to jump ahead of our competitors in the online space. Without his contributions we would not have been able to realize many of our plans. His minute-to-minute knowledge of the music industry was impressive... right down to how many units sold during a particular week for this artist or that. On a personal level, he was passionate about how things should be done, maybe stubborn but if you dug deeper you realized he was right. Maybe it's his laugh I'll miss, or that look he got when a friend of his was hurting, or the haunting way he spoke of his love for his family (his wife, his mom, his dad, his grandmother -- who passed away the year earlier). Deane summed it up nicely. He will be missed.
